Abstract
Several years ago, a laboratory-constructed plasmid with a single-component phenol monooxygenase gene (pheBA operon) flanked by two IS elements was released to a phenol-polluted area. During the following years, we found in the test area widely distributed pheBA operon-containing bacteria.
