A new species of the laomediid mud shrimp genus Axianassa Schmitt, 1924, A. planioculus, is described and illustrated on the basis of a single male specimen from intertidal muddy sand flat of Kabira Bay, Ishigaki Island, southern Ryukyu Islands, Japan.
