Calpionellids are a group of planktonic microfossils usually occuring in large numbers in pelagic deposits from the upper lower Tithonian to upper Valanginian, and showing a fairly uniform stratigraphic distribution all over the Tethyan Realm and in the southeastern Pacific margin.
