Abstract
Nitrogen remobilization is a key issue in plants. Recent studies in Arabidopsis thaliana have revealed that nucleoside catabolism supplies xanthine, a nitrogen-rich compound, to the purine ring catabolic pathway, which liberates ammonia from xanthine for reassimilation into amino acids.
