Background: Dynamic contrast-enhanced computed tomography (DCE-CT) is a promising non-invasive method that provides the functional evaluation of the vascularity in normal and malignant tissue. The objectives of this consecutive study were to investigate the possible correlation between the perfusion characteristics of colorectal cancer liver metastases as examined by (DCE-CT) and the microvessel density of resected metastases. An additional aim was to investigate the correlation between the urok...

The optical biopsy is a noninvasive diagnostic procedure that performs an analysis of the tissue with an optical system that allows reaching a result without extracting the sample (excisional biopsy) from the body tissue. Particularly, we are making spectrofluorometry (SFM) observations in loci lesions and healthy surrounding areas. The tissue is accessed through the body surface, including the analysis of the skin itself or mucosal surface, or by endoscope into any cavity. We have found spectra...

Abstract : Purpose: Data comparing osteoblastic vs osteolytic recurrences of therapeutic response are still very limited. We aimed to answer this question in 164 female breast cancer patients (including 61 females on statin therapy) suffering from recurrent breast cancer who received a single dose of Sm-153 EDTMP for painful metastatic bone lesions. Methods: 164 female patients suffered from painful metastatic breast cancer with >1 up to 5 bone lesions, we evaluated the response of recurrences j...

Purpose: To assess the diagnostic performance of multiparametric MRI (mpMRI), in the detection of prostate cancer in two different coil setting: endorectal coil (ERC) versus phased array coil alone (PAC). Materials and Methods: The study included 302 out of 395 consecutive patients with PSA values between 2.5-4 ng/ml and an abnormal Digital Rectal Examination (DRE), or patients with PSA values between 4-10ng/ml, independently from DRE. Each patient provided informed consent to undergo at serum f...

Objectives :- A ketogenic diet (KD) is a strict dietary protocol that incorporates high-fat, low-protein, and low-carbohydrate foods. Increasing the levels of ketones became an eventual and effective treatment strategy for medically refractory epilepsy. Although several theories on the rationale for the anticonvulsant efficacy of KD have been hypothesized, the most important anticonvulsant mechanism of KD is still unknown. This study is the first report that evaluated the mechanism underlying th...

Lipomas are benign tumors consisting primarily of mature adipocytes. Imaging is important in distinguishing benign ossifying lipoma from more aggressive tumors such as well-differentiated liposarcomas. Early diagnosis of ossifying lipoma and understanding of its benign etiology prevent unwarranted medical intervention such as biopsies and surgical resection, as well as decrease patient anxiety.

Objective: To identify the previously irradiated region is important in re-irradiation. We investigated the long-term transition of geometrical accuracy of a commercially available rigid and deformable image registration (RIR, DIR) software product, MIM Maestro, in livers of patients who underwent proton beam therapy (PBT). Methods: Image registration of pre-treatment and post-treatment CT was performed in 15 liver tumor patients who received PBT and follow up post-treatment CT examination was p...

Nerve-preservation technique plays an important role in surgery. Intraoperative nerve injuries often cause permanent neurogenic untoward events such as functional disorders, palsy, pain and numbness. To avoid such accidents, we devised an intraoperative fluorescence-imaging of peripheral nerves as a contribution to navigation surgery. Myelin-targeting fluorescent agents; namely, amphotericin B and fluorescinisothyanate, were used as markers of nerves in this study since myelin was a main compone...

Objective: Inflammation and mechanical ventilation contribute additively to white matter injury in the preterm infant. We examined whether in vivo diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) indices correlate with immunohistochemical analyses of brain inflammation and injury caused by injurious ventilation at birth, in the presence or absence of intrauterine inflammation. Methods: Twin-bearing ewes received an ultrasound guided injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS; n=11) or saline (n=12) 7 days prior to deli...

Objective: Compared to dynamic contrast enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI), image quality in diffusion-weighted MR imaging (DW-MRI) is generally poor because of low image spatial resolution and distortion. Readout-segmented EPI (RS-EPI) is a recently-developed technique to obtain high resolution DW-MRI with less distortion. The study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of high-resolution DW-MRI of the breast, using RS-EPI and single-shot EPI (SS-EPI). Methods: With IRB approval, 26 patients with clinically su...
