BACKGROUND. Some adult patients presenting with unexplained pyrexia, serositis, skin rashes, arthralgia, myalgia, and other symptoms commonly found in autoinflammatory disorders may not fit a specific diagnosis, either because their clinical phenotype is nondiagnostic or genetic tests are negative. We used the term undifferentiated systemic autoinflammatory disorder (uSAID) to describe such cases. Given that well-defined autoinflammatory diseases show responses to IL-1 blockade, we evaluated whe...

Abstract It is not always obvious for people how important new topics, which appear and disappear dynamically on the WWW. are for themselves because one does not have concrete or enough vocabulary for new topics. This paper presents an interface Personal and Temporal Hyper Bridges (PTHB) for a user vaguely interested in new topics, but can not express one's own interest for oneself. PTHB supplies a Web-site reading plan, which leads the user to concrete comprehension of the topics.

Conventional cytogenetics and molecular analyses allow to stratify acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients into subgroups with different clinical and prognostic relevance. AMLs with unsuccessful cytogenetics and no known recurrent mutations are a subgroup of cases for which information on possible underlying genetic lesions of the leukemic cells is lacking and with a poorly defined outcome. Previous studies have quantified the rate of unsuccessful karyotyping in approximately 10% of the analyzed A...

Lignocellulosic biomass is a renewable source with great potential for biofuels and bioproducts. However, the cost of cellulolytic enzymes limits the utilization of the low-cost bioresource. This study aimed to develop a consolidated bioprocessing without the need of supplementary cellulase for butyric acid production from lignocellulosic biomass. A stirred-tank reactor with a working volume of 21 L was constructed and operated in batch and semi-continuous fermentation modes with a cellulolytic ...

Abstract Background The pathophysiological hypothesis underlying tic disorders in Tourette syndrome (TS) is that basal ganglia are not capable of properly filtering cortical information, leading patients with difficulties in inhibiting unwanted behaviors or impulses. One of the main challenges for furthering such a hypothesis is to find appropriate animal models summarizing some aspects of the disease. Methods It has been established for more than 25 years in rodents that the prototypical seroto...

Undefined mesophilic mixed (DL-type) starter cultures are composed of predominantly Lactococcus lactis subspecies and 1 to 10 % Leuconostoc spp. The composition of the Leuconostoc population in the starter culture ultimately affects the characteristics and the quality of the final product. The scientific basis for the taxonomy of dairy relevant leuconostocs can be traced back fifty years, and no documentation on the genomic diversity of leuconostocs in starter cultures exists. We present ...

Abstract Undefined petroleum fractions typically composed of several components are characterized through a reduced set of components representing the whole mixture. The selected set should appropriately reproduce experimental phase equilibria behavior such as TBP curves as well as mass contents of elementary species such as amounts of carbon and hydrogen. Three approaches have been developed in this work. In the first approach, a predefined number of components are selected from a given ...

INTRODUCTION: The phenotype and function of immune cells infiltrating the conjunctiva in scarring trachoma have yet to be fully characterized. We assessed tissue morphology and immunophenotype of cellular infiltrates found in trachomatous scarring compared to control participants. METHODOLOGY: Clinical assessments and conjunctival biopsy samples were obtained from 34 individuals with trachomatous scarring undergoing trichiasis surgery and 33 control subjects undergoing cataract or retinal detach...

The present work aimed to characterize and optimize the submerged fermentation of broken rice for lactic acid (LA) production using undefined mixed culture from dewatered activated sludge. A microorganism with amylolytic activity, which also produces LA, Lactobacillus amylovorus, was used as a control to assess the extent of mixed culture on LA yield. Three level full factorial designs were performed to optimize and define the influence of fermentation temperature (20–50 °C), gelatinizati...

To report a compiler bug, one must often find a small test case that triggers the bug. The existing approach to automated test-case reduction, delta debugging, works by removing substrings of the original input; the result is a concatenation of substrings that delta cannot remove. We have found this approach less than ideal for reducing C programs because it typically yields test cases that are too large or even invalid (relying on undefined behavior). To obtain small and valid test cases...
