CD117/c-kit, a tyrosine kinase receptor, plays a critical role in hematopoiesis, pigmentation, and fertility. The overexpression and activation of c-kit are thought to promote tumor growth and have been reported in various cancers, including leukemia, glioblastoma and mastocytosis.
