Abstract
Drought stress causes the greatest soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] yield losses among the abiotic stresses in rain-fed U.S. growing areas. Because less than 10% of U.S. soybean hectares are irrigated, combating this stress requires soybean plants which possess physiological mechanisms to tolerate drought for a period of time.
