Abstract
Bacteria and archaea accumulate cytoplasmic polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) granules under nutrient-limited conditions with excess carbon. The transcriptional regulatory (TR) proteins found on the surface of PHA granules act as repressors as well as activators for the expression of major surface proteins called phasins. Until now, detailed information on the evolutionary relationships between these transcription regulators has not been available....
