Construction industry in Vietnam is concerned as one of the most crucial industries which contributes a large portfolio in the development of country. However, the competitive situation in the current market issued a challenge to construction enterprises which required an optimal business management. Hence, in this research, performance evaluation is constructed by applying the up-to-date data envelopment analysis method assisting firms to determine the efficiency and seek for the potential strategic alliances. Grey forecasting model—GM (1,1) is manipulated to predict the statistical data based on the consecutive past data, which gives managers a further vision on potential development. A number of decision-making units (construction companies) are carefully selected from the stock exchange markets performing the similar tasks (nearly 70% total revenue spent on construction work). Besides, the super-SBM method is conveyed to supplement the DEA model in ranking efficiency to point out the best DMU corresponding to the highest performance score. The targeted company is then highly recommended to cooperate with the efficient company in terms of strategic alliances. The result of this study found that the number of efficient companies and the order of ranking change annually. Some suggestions and discussion are mentioned here on how to improve more precisely the performance in the future based on the integration of data envelopment analysis (DEA) and Grey theory model.

The current context of Vietnam is that Vietnam is a developing country whose geographical shape is long and dynamic. Its logistics is also in the way of development and promising to have good potential. However, lack experience and technology, small and fragmented operation, fierce price competition among local enterprises, domination from foreign logistics giants are that factors that may hinder the growth of the local sector. It is then believed that cooperation among local firms could promote...

Accurately forecasting the demand for international and domestic tourism is a key goal for tourism industry leaders. The purpose of this study is to present more appropriate models for forecasting the demand for tourism in Vietnam. The authors apply GM(1,1), Verhulst, DGM(1,1) and DGM(2,1) to test which concise prediction models can improve the ability to predict the number of tourists visiting this country. In order to guarantee the accuracy of forecasting process, data cover in the period from...

Abstract The intent of the research paper has been to evaluate the short-term performance in terms of abnormal returns to the announcement of cross-border acquisitions (CBAs). This research work is based on 139 acquisitions undertaken by Indian companies during 2012–2016. The event study methodology has been applied to assess the effect of acquisition announcement on the short-run performance of the bidding firm. Later on, adopting the conceptual framework of organizational learning and absorpti...

Systems methodology has been widely applied for problem solving by many researchers in past. Rather than fitting the problem to the systems modelling method selected by taking assumptions, it would be far more justified to fit a mix of the methods to suit the nature of the problem. In management research, a strong criticism has emerged on mono-method-based research as this is not adequately cross-validated. The flexible systems methodology is in a way mixed-method and multi-method research frame...

Abstract The paradigms of transaction cost and social exchange are instrumental in developing joint venture research as well as its impact on flexibility of partners. However, extant research is scant regarding the type of flexibility that partners in joint venture are most impacted. In this study, we analyze the flexibility determinants in a sample of Indian cross-border joint ventures with G8 nations’ partner firms. The factors in the study as determinants of flexibility—termination flexibilit...

Climate change and its social, environmental, economic and ethical consequences are widely recognized as the major set of interconnected problems facing human societies. Its impacts and costs will be large, serious, and unevenly spread, globally for decades. The main factor causing climate change and global warming is the increase of global carbon emissions produced by human activities such as deforestation and burning of fossil fuels. In this special volume, the articles mainly focus on investi...

Inflation is a key element of a national economy, and it is also a prominent and important issue influencing the whole economy in terms of marketing. This is a complex problem requiring a large investment of time and wisdom to attain positive results. Thus, appropriate tools for forecasting inflation variables are crucial significant for policy making. In this study, both clarified value calculation and use of a genetic algorithm to find the optimal parameters are adopted simultaneously to const...

This study presents evidence of the renminbi’s growing influence in the Asia-Pacific region. The CNH market – the offshore renminbi foreign exchange market in Hong Kong SAR – is found to exert an effect on Asian currencies that is distinct from that of the onshore (CNY) market. Changes in the RMB/USD rates in both markets have a statistically and economically significant impact on changes in Asian currency rates against the US dollar, even after controlling for other major currency moves and the...

Abstract The efficiency levels at which companies turn inputs into outputs may increase their competitive capacity. Nevertheless, in the literature, there is a lack of methods allowing evaluation of the performance of operations in production systems that take into account all of their components. The objective of this study is to present an analysis of efficiency for a production system using DEA and OEE in an integrated manner (DEA/OEE). To achieve this objective, we conducted a case study of ...
Nowadays, the effective supply chain is considered more than ever. In this study, a supply chain composed of a dominant retailer and a non-green product supplier is investigated. Base demand is always fluctuating in the real market. Thus, considering the base demand disruption risk is one of the factors approaching the problem to reality as discussed in this model. Then, the retailer encounters the challenge of entering a new supplier producing the substitutable product of the first product. New...
