Abstract Objectives The association of long-term dynamic change in body weight and incident hypertension among general Chinese adults is still unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hypertension risk in a large prospective study of rural Chinese adult using relative weight gain or loss. Methods A total of 10 149 nonhypertensive Chinese adults 18 to 75 y of age completed a questionnaire interview and anthropometric and laboratory measurements at both baseline (2007鈥2008) and follow-up...

Abstract Background Studies on the association of fasting insulin concentrations or insulin resistance with subsequent risk of hypertension have yielded conflicting results. Objective To quantitatively assess the association of fasting insulin concentrations or homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) with incident hypertension in a general population by performing a meta-analysis. Methods We searched the PubMed and Embase databases until August 31, 2016 for prospective observat...

BACKGROUND: It is uncertain whether high-baseline uric acid (UA) or change in UA concentration over time is related to development of incident hypertension. To investigate relationships between: (i) baseline serum UA concentration and (ii) change in UA concentration and incident hypertension. METHODS: About 96,606 Korean individuals (with follow-up UA data available for 56,085 people) participating in a health check program was undertaken. Cox regression models were used to estimate adjusted haz...

Aims We investigated whether traffic-related air pollution and noise are associated with incident hypertension in European cohorts. Methods and results We included seven cohorts of the European study of cohorts for air pollution effects (ESCAPE). We modelled concentrations of particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter鈥夆墹2.5 碌m (PM2.5),鈥夆墹10 碌m (PM10),鈥>2.5, and鈥夆墹10 碌m (PMcoarse), soot (PM2.5 absorbance), and nitrogen oxides at the addresses of participants with land use regression. Residential e...

Background: Insulin resistance is a precursor of numerous chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease (CVD). The fasting insulin concentration is considered a reasonable surrogate of insulin resistance, especially among nondiabetic individuals. Objective: We aimed to quantitatively summarize the literature on the association of fasting insulin concentrations with risk of hypertension, stroke, and coronary heart disease (CHD) by conducting a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies. Des...

Abstract Background Few prospective studies on association between waist circumference and hypertension have taken account of the dynamic change of WC, which caused by lifestyle modification. Methods After a baseline investigation, we conducted the first and the second follow-up assessments for subjects after 2 and 5years, respectively. The difference value (D-value, the value at the first follow-up minus the value at baseline) in WC was calculated to evaluate 2years change of WC. The associatio...
