Carbon monoxide (CO) is anti-inflammatory and protective in models of disease. Its actions in vitro are short-lived but are sustained in vivo. We hypothesize that systemic CO can mediate prolonged phenotype changes in vivo, with a focus on macrophages (Mφs).
