Squamates exhibit a vast diversity of body plans, which directly determines habitat use and preference. Here the skeleton of the sand‐swimmer burrower gymnophthalmid, Calyptommatus leiolepis , is analyzed to investigate how its peculiar fossorial locomotion affects its osteology.
