Currency, Exchange, and Inheritance in the Evolution of Symbiosis

Symbiotic interactions between eukaryotes and prokaryotes are widespread in nature. Here we offer a conceptual framework to study the evolutionary origins and ecological circumstances of species in beneficial symbiosis.
