Abstract
Hemithioindigo (HTI) is an emerging photoswitch with many advantageous properties compared to the commonly used photoswitches like azobenzenes, spiropyranes, or dithienylethenes. In this DIGEST the syntheses, physical and photophysical properties of HTI photoswitches and mechanistic explanations for the latter are reviewed.
