The extant morphospecies of the Trilobatus sacculifer plexus (T. sacculifer, T. quadrilobatus, T. immaturus and T. trilobus) have widespread biogeographical distributions and long stratigraphical ranges, and are thus routinely utilized in palaeoceanographical studies.
