High-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) combined with macroporous resin (MR) column was successfully applied to the isolation and purification of four flavonoid glycosides from the medicinal herb Lotus plumule (LP). A polar two-phase solvent system composed of ethyl acetate–n-butanol–water (1:2:3, v/v/v) was selected by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and run on a preparative scale where the lower aqueous phase was used as the mobile phase with a head-to-tail elution mode...

Pinoresinol from the leaves of Cinnamomum camphora used as a model natural compound was extracted and isolated. The chemical characterization of the compound was confirmed using UV, IR, MS, H NMR and C HMR. The purity of the compound (86%) was determined using HPLC technique and it was used for further experiments. Its antibacterial activities against five food-related bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Salmonella enterica) were detected...

Interest in essential oils with pesticidal activity against insects and pests is growing. In this study, essential oils from different parts (leaves, twigs and seeds) of Cinnamomum camphora L. Presl were investigated for their chemical composition, and insecticidal and repellent activities against the cotton aphid. The essential oils, obtained by hydrodistillation, were analyzed by GC×GC-TOFMS. A total of 96 components were identified in the essential oils and the main constituents found in the ...

The essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of flowers, young leaves and epicormic branches of Cinnamomum camphora chvar. Borneol were comparatively studied by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC/FID) and GC/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Among the verified constituents, oxy-terpene accounted for the most abundant constituent in all volatile oils (flowers 50.83%, leaves 70.75%, branches 78.22%). d-Borneol, the characteristic oxy-terpene of the volatile oils of C. camphora chva...

Abstract Chiral compounds have shown antimicrobial activity, enantioselectively. Leaf oil composition of Cinnamomum camphora was studied using GC-FID, SPME-GC-FID, enantio-GC and GC/MS techniques. Camphor exists in two chiral forms and contributes major percentage to C. camphora essential oil (68.4–81.2%). The results showed (1R)-(+)-camphor as major enantiomer (ee > 99%). The biological potential of essential oil, (1R)-(+)- and (1S)-(−)-camphor was investigated against Choanephora cucurbitarum,...

Four different extracts were obtained by extracting Cinnamomum camphora xylem with hot water, methanol, ethyl acetate, and chloroform. Thereafter, wood (Masson pine) was impregnated with these different extracts, and the decay resistance performance of the wood treated with the extracts was studied. The results showed that the mass loss of wood treated with 4% ammoniacal copper quats (ACQ), 4% boric acid, 4% camphor, and extracts made with 10% water, 10% methanol, 10% ethyl acetate, and 10% chlo...

The aim of this research was to investigate the antibacterial activity of Parasenecio pseudotaimingasa, a perennial plant belonging to the Asteraceae, tribe Senecioneae. The methanol extract, n-hexane fraction, and n-butanol fraction of P. pseudotaimingasa leaves all exhibited antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, forming inhibition zones greater than 11 mm in discs. Among them, the n-hexane fraction showed the highest antibacterial activity against E. coli...

Taraxacum, known as dandelion, is a large genus of plants in the family Asteraceae. Pharmacological studies have shown that these plants display a wide variety of medicinal properties because Taraxacum extracts contain many pharmacologically active metabolites that display anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, antioxidant, and anticancer activity. Each plant species displays several different natural constituents, the majority of which have not been studied as no global metabolite screen of the di...

Abstract A new 3-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-propane-1,2-diol glycoside, named cinnamomdiol A ( 1 ), together with two known compounds, 3-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-propane-1,2-diol ( 2 ) and taxifolin ( 3 ), was isolated from the roots of Cinnamomum camphora . Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic evidences. Compounds 2 and 3 were isolated from the title plant for the first time.

A new cerebroside (1), along with three known steroidal compounds, β-sitosterol (2), daucosterol (3), and stigmasterol (4), were isolated from the roots of Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr. The structure of 1 was determined to be 1-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2R,6E,9R,12E)2-[(2′R)-2′-hydroxypentacosaneoyl-amino]-6,12-heptadecene-1,9-diol on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence.
