Abstract
Summary CRISPR /Cas systems provide bacteria and archaea with molecular immunity against invading phages and foreign plasmids. The class 2 type VI CRISPR /Cas effector Cas13a is an RNA ‐targeting CRISPR effector that provides protection against RNA phages.
