Reinterpreting the age of the uppermost ‘Old Red Sandstone' and Early Carboniferous in Scotland

In Scotland, the base of the Ballagan Formation has traditionally been placed at the first grey mudstone within a contiguous Late Devonian to Carboniferous succession.
