Abstract
Upupiformes is the avian clade including extant hoopoes (Upupidae) and wood hoopoes (Phoeniculidae). Upupiform birds are abundantly represented in some Eocene fossil sites and are also known from early Miocene localities, but the fossil record in between is surprisingly scant.
