Abstract
Chlorella–like coccoid green algae are widely distributed in almost all terrestrial habitats and belong to different lineages of the Chlorophyceae and Trebouxiophyceae. The Watanabea clade of the Trebouxiophyceae shows a high genetic biodiversity.
