Abstract
Abstract Tetracycline (TC) is a veterinary drug, wildly prescribed for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes. Consequently, its remaining residues in food products have to be regularized. We report in this paper about the development of a novel immunosensor based on an integrated bio micro-electromechanical system (Bio-MEMS) containing eight gold microelectrodes (µWEs), an integrated silver and platinum reference and counter electrodes, respectively. TC immobilization on the µWEs surface was conducted using three methods. The first through functionalization with 4-aminophenylacetic acid (CMA), the second by functionalization with CMA followed by preconcentration of a new structure of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) coated with poly (pyrrole-co-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid) (Py/Py-COOH/MNPs) cross-linked with Ab-TC, and the last one directly through the functionalization with Py/Py-COOH/MNPs. The analyte was quantified by competitive detection with TC immobilized on the µWEs surface toward specific polyclonal antibody (Ab-TC), using a mixture of a fixed concentration of Ab-TC and decreasing levels of TC one from 0.1 pg mL −1 to 1000 pg mL −1 . Microcontact printing, followed by fluorescence microscopy characterization were performed during the functionalization of the immunosensor surface to certify that the corresponding immune detection process is taking place. This immunosensor was found to be highly sensitive with a limit of detection of 1.2 pg mL −1 and specific in the presence of interferents. The standard addition method was exploited to detect TC in honey samples. The present immunosensor platform is up-and-coming for TC detection which can dramatically decrease the time of analysis providing a new pathway for advanced immunoassays development in industrial food control.

Abstract A simple and highly sensitive approach was performed to synthesize a selective sulfaguanidine (SG) sensor based on a molecularly imprinted electropolymer of acrylamide (PAM) for honey quality control. SG was detected by measurements of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). These techniques were applied successfully to determine SG with an excellent selectivity when compared to the results of interfering compounds. Furthermore, unprecedent...

Abstract A novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor based on cerium (Ce) doped CdS modified graphene (G)/BiYWO6 was designed, which exhibits enhanced PEC intensity compared with pure BiYWO6, G/BiYWO3 and BiYWO6/Ce:CdS. In this scenario, ascorbic acid (AA) was exploited as an efficient and non-poisonous electron donor for scavenging photogenerated holes. The doping of Ce in CdS promoted its visible light absorption range and facilitated the charge transfer rate as well as hindered the h+/e- re...

ABSTRACTAn LC-MS/MS method is presented for screening five tetracyclines and their epimers in a broad range of food products. The scope of matrices includes meat-, fish-, seafood-based products, various dairy ingredients, infant formulae and fats. The method principle is based on a liquid–liquid extraction with aqueous ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and acetonitrile followed by a freezing step to promote phase separation at low temperature. After defatting with hexane, sample extracts we...

A rapid, simple, and efficient method was described for the simultaneous determination of three common antibiotic residues including erythromycin, tetracycline, and chloramphenicol in raw milk. A molecular imprinting technique combined with solid-phase extraction (SPE) was used to pretreat the test samples and then simultaneously detected with HPLC. The whole process, only including one step of pretreatment, was able to detect the entire target molecule using specific enrichment and analysis met...

Anti-microbial drugs are widely employed for the treatment and cure of diseases in animals, promotion of animal growth, and feed efficiency. However, the scientific literature has indicated the possible presence of antimicrobial drug residues in animal-derived food, making it one of the key public concerns for food safety. Therefore, it is highly desirable to design fast and accurate methodologies to monitor antimicrobial drug residues in animal-derived food. Legislation is in place in many coun...

Abstract Despite numerous methods for the detection of antibiotic residues, they are usually destructive and require tedious pre-treatment. Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) is an emerging technology that has advantages for analyzing chemical and biological compounds since THz waves are very sensitive to the molecular vibrational modes. Here we incorporated attenuated total reflection technique into the THz-TDS and demonstrated that this technology (ATR THz-TDS) allowed to determine t...

Antibiotics are able to be accumulated in human body by food chain and may induce severe influence to human health and safety. Hence, the development of sensitive and simple methods for rapid evaluation of antibiotic levels is highly desirable. Nanomaterials with excellent electronic, optical, mechanical, and thermal properties have been recognized as one of the most promising materials for opening new gates in the development of next-generation biosensors. This review highlights the current adv...

Herein, an ultrasensitive and selective assay for antibiotic tetracycline (TC) was developed based on an aptamer and graphene oxide (GO). The assay was designed based on the protection effect of the aptamer on GO due to aggregation. When the GO-based aptasensor was incubated with TC, TC could capture the TC aptamer from GO, leading to the aggregation of GO in a high salt solution. The increase in size and decrease in zeta-potential can be detected by adding TC in the assay. A linear relationship...

Biosensor, an efficient analytical device, has been broadly applied in the analysis to agriculture and food samples. Since the analytes in agriculture and food samples are low-abundant and complex, there is an urgent need to concentrate the analytes with suitable enrichment methods before the biose...

Tetracycline residue in honey has become an increasingly important food safety problem. In this work, an ultrasensitive gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-linked aptamer assay was developed to determine the tetracycline residue in honey. First, a tetracycline–bovine serum albumin conjugate coating was applied to a microplate. Then, with the incubation of AuNPs-linked aptamer, the fixed tetracycline in the microplate competed for the limited aptamer with the free tetracycline in the sample. Higher amount...

Abstract Chemical contamination in food is one of the most serious food safety problems. Competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (Cp-ELISA) is the most widely used analytical tool for detection of food chemical contaminants due to its high throughput, low cost, and straightforward readouts. However, conventional ELISA suffers from low sensitivity, which greatly limits its potential in highly sensitive detection. To fulfill increasingly stringent control requirement for chemical contaminant...

A photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor is described for detecting tetracycline (TC). A gold nanoparticles/BiOBr (AuNPs/BiOBr) composite was prepared where the AuNPs play a key function in carrier transfer which is ascribed to the wavelength-dependent dual function as an electron sink and as a hot-electron donor. Due to this dual function, the composite exhibits a wide photo-response and high electron transfer efficiency. This results in enormously enhanced PEC response. The TC-aptamer was immob...
