Purpose 18F-FDG PET/CT (PET/CT) is a useful tool for the diagnosis of aortic graft infection (AGI), but has rarely been used to influence therapeutic decisions during follow-up. We aimed to study the role of PET/CT in the long-term monitoring of patients.

We report a case of a 59-year-old man who presented with fever, sepsis, and left cervicothoracic cutaneous inflammation 13 months after implantation of Jarvik 2000 device. Device infection was suspected and F-FDG PET/CT showed an intense and homogeneous uptake along driveline cable. Bacteriological local sample showed Staphylococcus aureus. After adapted antibiotherapy, control F-FDG PET/CT displays treatment efficacy with no residual uptake in driveline. F-FDG PET/CT could be an important tool ...

Abstract Introduction Few studies have evaluated the promising role of 18 F鈥揻luoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography (PET) and PET/computed tomography FDG PET/CT in evaluating and monitoring treatment response in patients with lymph node tuberculosis (LNTB). The aim of this clinical investigation was to assess the clinical usefulness of FDG PET/CT for initial tuberculosis staging and to determine the prognostic value of the decrease of 18 F鈥揊DG uptake during antibiotic treatment in ...

Human immune deficiency virus (HIV) is a leading cause of death. It attacks the immune system, thereby rendering the infected host susceptible to many HIV-associated infections, malignancies and neurocognitive disorders. The altered immune system affects the way the human host responds to disease, resulting in atypical presentation of these disorders. This presents a diagnostic challenge and the clinician must use all diagnostic avenues available to diagnose and manage these conditions. The adve...

Abstract Introduction The Bentall procedure is a cardiac surgery involving graft replacement of the aortic valve, aortic root and ascending aorta. Graft infection after Bentall's procedure (BGI) is infrequent but severe, and often difficult to diagnose and treat. Patients and Methods A retrospective cohort study was performed using the Bordeaux endocarditis database of adult patients admitted to the Bordeaux University Medical Hospital for BGI between 2008 and 2014. Published case reports were i...

Objective/Background The management of aortic graft infection (AGI) is highly complex and in the absence of a universally accepted case definition and evidence-based guidelines, clinical approaches and outcomes vary widely. The objective was to define precise criteria for diagnosing AGI. Methods A process of expert review and consensus, involving formal collaboration between vascular surgeons, infection specialists, and radiologists from several English National Health Service hospital Trusts wi...

### Background The use of synthetic material for reconstructive vascular surgery was first reported during the early 1950s. Infection involving vascular graft prostheses is an infrequent but devastating complication of reconstructive vascular graft surgery and is associated with a high morbidity and, in some situations, mortality. Improvements in surgical techniques and graft design, including the use of native venous or arterial tissue, have reduced the frequency of infection and severity of co...

Mycotic aneurysm (MA) is a focal dilation of an infected arterial wall. This uncommon disease follows an aggressive, unpredictable clinical course with significant mortality and presents unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This review discusses the pathogenesis and the diagnostic challenges of MA.

To further promote the clinical application of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) in infection and inflammation and standardize the diagnostic process, the experts in relevant fields in China carried out discussion and formed the Expert Consensus on the clinical application of FDG PET/CT in infection and inflammation. This consensus is intended to provide a reference for imaging physicians to select a reasonable diagnostic plan. However, it shoul...

Summary Mycobacterial infection-related morbidity and mortality in patients following cardiopulmonary bypass surgery is high and and there is a growing need for a consensus-based expert opinion to provide international guidance for diagnosing, preventing and treating in these patients. In this document the International Society for Cardiovascular Infectious Diseases (ISCVID) covers aspects of prevention (field of hospital epidemiology), clinical management (infectious disease specialists, cardia...

Nuclear medicine procedures, including Ga-67 and labeled leucocyte SPECT/CT as well as PET/CT using 18F-FDG and recently Ga-68 tracers, have found extensive applications in the assessment of infectious and inflammatory processes in general and in soft tissues in particular. Recent published data focus on summarizing the available imaging information with the purpose of providing the referring clinicians with optimized evidence based results. Guidelines and/or recommendations of clinical societie...

Purpose Vascular graft infection (VGI) in central grafts is a rare but dreaded complication with a high mortality. Several imaging modalities are employed, all with pros and cons. Computed tomography is the standard, but lacks sensitivity for low-grade infections. There is still no consensus regarding the diagnostic modality of choice. The study objective was to assess the role of combined positron emission tomography and computed tomography with fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG-PET/CT) in the diagnostic...
