Friction stir welding is one of the newest methods of metal welding. The method is constantly being developed and friction stir spot welding (FSSW) is one of its varieties. The method is mainly used in the aircraft, automotive and shipbuilding industries. During the process, heat is generated as a result of friction between the tool and materials as well as plastic deformation of the joined materials. The paper presents a numerical analysis of welded structures made of 6061-T6 aluminium alloy. T...

Rapid development in electrical and electronic technology had reached the level where the size of a part is produced in miniature size. Therefore, there is a need in joining of similar and dissimilar materials with these scaled down components with economical cost. One of the joining techniques that can be used to joint dissimilar material is friction stir welding (FSW). In this study, ultra-thin sheets of aluminum alloy (AA5052) and pure copper (99.999%) with 0.8 mm thickness were successfully ...

Abstract The comprehensive body of knowledge that has built up with respect to the friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminium alloys since the technique was invented in 1991 is reviewed. The basic principles of FSW are described, including thermal history and metal flow, before discussing how process parameters affect the weld microstructure and the likelihood of entraining defects. After introducing the characteristic macroscopic features, the microstructural development and related distribution ...

The first edition of this book was published in 1996 to cover the principles, procedures, application, limitations and codes and standards of widely used non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques. Techniques added to this second edition include neutron radiography, pulsed eddy current testing, low frequency eddy current testing, SQUID based eddy current testing and mechanical impedance analysis. There are 15 chapters: (1) Non-destructive testing: an introduction; (2) Visual Examination; (3) Liqui...

Abstract In the paper, some issues of choosing composite materials for window mounting elements in thermal insulation is presented. To eliminate places where significant heat losses occur, it is necessary not only to properly design exterior walls, but also to use suitable materials and effective technology of window installation. There are several window installation systems, in each of which there are elements responsible for thermal insulation and supporting elements responsible for system st...

Abstract The paper presents the influence of PU foam with an addition of glass fiber on the buckling resistance of an I-beam. Three beam types were considered: an aluminum beam (AA), a composite AA-PU beam and a composite AA-PU-CFRP beam. Each beam was made with two C-profiles connected by webs. The flanges were reinforced by flat bars. Channels were made by bending 0.08 mm thick aluminum alloy 6061-T6 sheets. Flat bars were made from aluminum alloy 6061-T6 2.0 mm in thickness. The metal sheets ...
The manufacturing technology for adhesive joints is not yet fully optimized, as proved by a large number of papers that have been published in recent years. Future studies on innovative techniques for fabricating adhesive joints should investigate the influence of parameters such as: (1) The shape of adhesive protrusion, (2) lap dimensions, and (3) cohesive layer reduction in the most efforted regions of the joint. With the application of additional mechanical connectors (e.g., rivets, screws, a...
