Significance Excitation–contraction coupling (ECC) in vertebrate skeletal muscle depends upon specialized junctions at which Ca V 1.1, a voltage-gated channel in the plasma membrane, interacts with RyR1, a calcium release channel in the sarcoplasmic reticulum.
