Abstract
ABSTRACTThe study seeks to construct a descriptive and analytical framework on the Colombian context for business and its relation to the international order, particularly regarding its position in Latin America. The research consists of a documentary review on the factors that determine competitiveness and a review of the economic, political, and social situation of the country as reflexes of the current business landscape in Colombia. This review draws upon recent scientific papers, analyses and studies by international organizations, sources which together provide a comprehensive perspective of the business environment.

We evaluate how home-country economic agents (government, universities and research centers, and industry) affect the international competitiveness of small and medium multinational enterprises (SMNEs) of developing countries in Latin America. Drawing on a sample of 100 SMNEs of Peru, the main findings reveal that for Peruvian SMNEs, the government is a core economic agent. Competitiveness of SMNEs also depends on the relationships they have with companies operating in the same industry. Univers...

a b s t r a c t Many researchers and economists have argued that competitiveness studies conducted by WEF and IMD, show limitations in small-economies, even more when they have different characteristics. The objective of this research is to study the competitiveness of three small-economies: Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Singapore. The double-diamond model of competitiveness is useful when performing this task.

Over the past few years, there has been a growing interest on the part of the scientific community (and, more recently, of policy makers) in the concept of social innovation. The notion of social innovation is particularly appealing in light of the difficulties facing traditional welfare systems and, more broadly, a development model essentially based on only two actors (the market and the state) that is finding it increasingly difficult to meet the growing and diversified needs of society. Howe...
