Abstract
ABSTRACTThe study seeks to construct a descriptive and analytical framework on the Colombian context for business and its relation to the international order, particularly regarding its position in Latin America. The research consists of a documentary review on the factors that determine competitiveness and a review of the economic, political, and social situation of the country as reflexes of the current business landscape in Colombia. This review draws upon recent scientific papers, analyses and studies by international organizations, sources which together provide a comprehensive perspective of the business environment.

When encounters between companies belonging to different cultures take place, it is easy for misunderstandings to arise due to the existence of socio-cultural differences and a limited knowledge of such. These socio-cultural clashes hinder the success of the internationalization strategy, which in turn renders financial and strategic efforts a waste, hence threatening the organization’s longevity. This investigation identifies those socio-cultural variables which act over the negotiations and in...

This paper investigates circumstances where a region loses its technological leadership after some major technological breakthrough. Input-output linkages between firms in a Cournot upstream industry and a perfectly competitive downstream industry create forces for agglomeration in particular locations, driving up prices of immobile factors. A new superior technology, incompatible with the old, will not benefit from these linkages, so is more likely to be established in locations with little exi...

The present study examined how executives’perceptions of the environment affected their decisions to collect strategic information. It was hypothesized that two dimensions of perceived uncertainty would have unique relationships with environmental scanning. Interviews were conducted with 72 senior executives in a cross-section of industries and produced the following results: (1) strategic importance was the primary determinant of scanning; (2) scanning declined as the environment was perceived ...

The organizational task environment (OTE) construct is evaluated using a large, independent sample. A general measurement model for three latent variables, munificence, dynamism and complexity is constructed for confirmatory factor analysis. This model is then tested for both convergent and discriminant validity using a multitrait-multimethod matrix approach. The OTE model in this study demonstrates convergent validity, but it does not exhibit discriminant validity. The results of this study do ...
