Background: Microvascular obstruction (MVO) after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) leads to higher incidence of both early and late complications. A number of single nucleotide polymorphisms in 9p21 chromosome have been shown to affect angiogenesis in response to ischaemia.
