Tetrahydrofurans are simple heterocycles found in many natural and synthetic products. It has been previously demonstrated that chiral phosphoramidite ligands can induce enantio-selectivity in many trimethylenemethane (TMM) cycloadditions; however, the synthesis of tetra­hydrofurans from aldehydes had proven to be difficult.
