Abstract
The mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPRmt) promotes the recovery of dysfunctional mitochondria. Surprisingly, UPRmt activation inadvertently maintains and propagates the deleterious mtDNA in a heteroplasmic Caenorhabditis elegans strain, with detrimental consequences.
