An Investigation and Analysis on the Mental Health of Students of the Newly Established Colleges

Aim To know the mental health of the upgraded college students,and to provide evidence for their mental health education.Methods With the help of SCL—90 symptom evaluation form,504 students in three upgraded colleges in Shaanxi are tested on their mental health.Results The general level of their mental health is lower than the national level.The mental health level of students studying four years is superior to and different greatly from that of the students studying three years in these colleges.Main mental problems include compulsion,depression,personal relationship,anxiety,panic and bigotry,etc.(about1.98%~11.11%).The rate of mental problems is 21.63%,which is higher than the result of national sampling survey.The differences of each factor score between male and female students in SCL-90 have no statistic meaning.Marked difference is shown that each factor score in SCL-90 of students from rural areas is higher than that of students from urban,and students learning liberal arts is higher than those learning science(average P value 0.05).Conclusion Certain mental problems exist in the students of the upgraded colleges.Mental health education should be strengthened to provide mental health service for college students.
