The antihypertensive effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) are associated with up-regulation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS3) activity. This mechanism may explain how polymorphisms in NOS3 gene affect the antihypertensive responses to ACEi.
