In the present study, the hydroalcoholic extracts of Nycatanthes arbortristis Linn. (Parijatha) and Hygrophila spinosa T. Anders (Kokila) and combination of these extracts were compared for their diuretic activity using Lipschitz test. Standard drug used was furosemide (100mg/kg body weight) in 0.9% sodium chloride solution. All the extracts significantly increased urine elimination and Na+, K+, and Cl excretion as compared to normal saline treated groups. The combination of hydroalcoholic extra...

Mobile applications have crept into every part of our lives. The marketing phrase 'There's an app for that' may seem trite, but it's starting to seem like it's true. But like all software, mobile apps have security issues. And one area where this is particularly worrisome - as Stephen McCarney, VP of marketing at Arxan Technologies explains in this interview - is in the area of healthcare.Mobile applications have crept into every part of our lives. But like all software, mobile apps have securit...

Epidemiological data indicate that inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD), is the third highest risk condition for the development of colorectal cancer (CRC), namely, colitis-associated cancer (CAC). CD is also associated with an increased risk of small-bowel adenocarcinoma, in response to chronic inflammation of the small intestine. In studies published in the 1990s, the risk for CAC in IBD was approximately 7 % at 20 years after diagnosis. ...

Several methods are used to evaluate the thyroid nodules. The aim of this study was to determine the sensitivity, specificity, false positive and negative rates, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of touch imprint, crush preparation, and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) methods. This cross-sectional study was done in Shohada-ye Ashayer University Hospital in Khorramabad. All the patients who underwent thyroid surgery due to thyroid nodules in this hospital between M...

BACKGROUND: In January 2009, the Joint Commission implemented a National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) for ambulatory care, NPSG 3E, intended to reduce harm associated with the use of anticoagulation therapy. The 2011 NPSG 3E encompasses 8 elements of performance, including requirements that each organization (a) provide education regarding anticoagulation therapy to staff, patients, and families and (b) evaluate its safety practices and take appropriate action to improve its practices. The Alvin C...

To characterize and bioprocessing of oncolytic enzyme-L-asparaginase from novel marine bacteria by statistical optimization for maximum asparaginase production. Out of 47, 9 bacterial isolates obtained from mangrove sediments showed positive Lasparaginase activity. One of the novel marine Bacillus AVP 14 was identified as Bacillus subtilis by 16S rRNA partial sequence and characterized for growth optimization and maximum production of anticancer enzyme. Solid state fermentation of L-Asparaginase...

In this paper, we investigate the performance of a series of classification methods for the prediction of the hospital Length of Stay (LOS), based on two temporally sequential clinical scenarios. We used a 2012 Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPar) dataset, which contains records of Medicare beneficiaries who used inpatient hospital services. Our subset included 300,000 randomly selected cases. During the prepossessing we added new features and linked our data with external datasets, us...

Ferrum phosphoricum is also known as Ferrum phos or iron phosphate and is prepared by amalgamating the minerals iron and phosphorus. It is formulated by blending three solutions - iron sulfate, sodium acetate and phosphorus. The resultant product iron phosphate is pulverized using large amounts of sugar lactose (also known as milk sugar) to make it non-toxic. Ferrum phos is primarily used for beginning of inflammations.

Silver nano particles (AgNPs) was synthesized using extract of Senecio glaucus extraxt. The effect of extract source on the shape of the Ag nanoparticles and antibacterial activity are investigated. The nature of AgNPs synthesized was analyzed by UV–vis spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Silver nanoparticles were found to have an average size of 15-20 nm and mostly spherical. The antibacterial potential of modified extract containing synthesized AgNPs was compared with that...

Background Children in the age group of 5-15 years are often considered as school age. It is recorded that in India, one fifth population consists of children between 5-14 years, which includes the primary and secondary school-age (1). Adequate micronutrient status is critical for good health and development during childhood. Access to high quality data on nutrition and health indicators in this age group would aid in prioritizing and setting up deliberate, evidence based nutrition intervention ...

In the present study, gastro retentive floating drug delivery system (GRDDS) of Famciclovir, an antiviral drug, with an oral bioavailability of only 75% have been designed to increase therapeutic efficacy and gastric residence time and to reduce frequency of administration. Famciclovir having a short biological half life of 2.5hrs is eliminated quickly from the body leading to low efficacy. Therefore a sustained release medication was advantageous so as to achieve prolonged therapeutic effect an...

Glycated Albumin (GA) gives an estimate of short-term average glycemic status. It is used on monthly basis to assess glycemic control in diabetics to attain treatment goals and prevent long term complications. Recommendation of Glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) for diagnosis of diabetes mellitus has evoked mixed response worldwide. We reviewed a number of published articles to analyze the pros and cons of using both Glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) and Glycated albumin (GA) for diagnosis of Diabetes mellit...
