Nurse training programmes commenced in Saudi Arabia in the late 1950s, around the time of the birth of enterostomal therapy internationally. Although stoma care emerged as the first nursing specialty in the late 1980s, in Saudi Arabia, the first nurses graduated as enterostomal therapists only in 2010.
