Abstract
ADAMTS13 is a circulating zinc metalloprotease that cleaves the hemostatic glycoprotein von Willebrand factor (VWF) in a shear-dependent manner. Deficiency in ADAMTS13, owing to genetic mutations or autoimmune inhibitors, causes thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TPP).
