Abstract
Halorhodopsin from Natronomonas pharaonis (pHR) functions as a light-driven halide ion pump. In the presence of halide ions, the photochemical reaction of pHR is described by the scheme: K→ L1 → L2 → N → O → pHR' → pHR.
