Abstract
Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia are known atherosclerosis risk factors. The association between adiponectin plasma levels and obesity, insulinemia, and atherosclerosis has been shown. Thus, adiponectin may be a link between hyperinsulinemia and vascular disease. In vitro data demonstrated a reduction of adiponectin expression by insulin.
