Abstract
Abstract The imino-phosphine ligands L1 and L2 were prepared via condensation reaction of 2-(diphenylphosphino)benzaldehyde with substituted anilines and obtained in very good yields. An equimolar reaction of L1 and L2 with either PdCl2(cod) or PtCl2(cod) gave new palladium(II) and platinum(II) complexes 1–4. The compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopy. The molecular structures of 2, 3 and 4 were confirmed by X-ray crystallography. All the three molecular structures crystallized in monoclinic C2/c space system. The coordination geometry around the palladium and platinum atoms in respective structures exhibited distorted square planar geometry at the metal centers. The complexes were evaluated in vitro for their cytotoxic activity against human breast (MCF-7) and human colon (HT-29) cancer cells, and they exhibited growth inhibitory activities and selectivity that were superior to the standard compound cisplatin.

Iminophosphines 2-(PPh2)C6H4C(R)═NR′ (L) (R = H, Me; R′ = 2,6-Me2C6H3 or 2,6-Pri2C6H3) react with Pt(II) precursors to form chelated P,N complexes [PtLX2] (X = Me, Et, Cl), whereas with [Pt(C7H10)3] (C7H10 = norbornene) and other labile Pt(0) precursors coordination is via phosphorus and chelation is not observed. However, activation of the imine H or the methyl C–H bond of the ketoimine affords P,C metallacyclic hydride complexes [PtH(PPh2C6H4C═NR′)L] and [PtH(PPh2C6H4C(═NR′)CH2)L], respectivel...

Abstract Anti-cancer effects of a newly-synthesized palladium(II) complex, [Pd(sac)(terpy)](sac)·4H 2 O (sac = saccharinate, and terpy = 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine), were tested against human breast cancer cell lines, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231. The Pd complex had a strong anti-growth effect in a dose- and time-dependent manner in vitro . This effect was also confirmed by the experiment performed on Balb/c mice in vivo . The IC 50 values were 0.09 μM for MDA-MB-231 and 3.05 μM for MCF-7. It was also very ...

Abstract Ligands (2-pyridyl-2-furylmethyl)imine, (L1), (2-pyridyl-2-thiophenemethyl)imine (L2), and (2-pyridyl-2-thiopheneethyl)imine (L3) were synthesized by condensation reactions and obtained in good yields. Reactions of L1–L3 with either [PdClMe(cod)] or [PdCl2(cod)] gave the corresponding monometallic palladium(II) complexes 1–5 in very good yields. Molecular structures of complexes 1, 4 and 5 indicated that the ligands are bidentate and coordinate to the palladium metal through the imine a...

The (PNP)Rh fragment (2) can be conveniently accessed by dissociation of L from the four-coordinate complexes (PNP)Rh(L) (L = SPri2, 3; L = H2C═CHBut, 10), which contain the tridentate PNP pincer ligand (2-iPr2P-4-Me-C6H4)2N−. A new and a more straightforward synthesis of 10 is reported, yielding 65% of 10 based on RhCl3(H2O)x. A number of new aryl halide oxidation addition products (AHOAP) of the general formula (PNP)Rh(Ar)(Hal) (Hal = Cl, Br, I) have been synthesized through oxidative addition...

Several new ferrocenylimines containing both planar and central chirality were prepared from (Sp)-2-(diphenylphosphino)ferrocenecarboxaldehyde and chiral primary amines. One of these compounds, (Sp,Sc)-3, induced particularly high conversions (92−99%) and enantioselectivities (91−94% ee) when applied as a P−N ligand in the asymmetric allylic alkylation (AAA). In addition, a precatalyst complex was formed from (Sp,Sc)-3 and di-μ-chlorobis[(η3-C3H5)palladium(II)] and isolated after anion exchange ...

Abstract The thioredoxin system, composed of thioredoxin reductase (TrxR), thioredoxin (Trx), and NADPH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate), plays a central role in regulating cellular redox homeostasis and signaling pathways. TrxR, overexpressed in many tumor cells and contributing to drug resistance, has emerged as a new target for anticancer drugs. Gold complexes have been validated as potent TrxR inhibitors in vitro in the nanomolar range. In order to obtain potent and selective Tr...

Abstract The complexes formed by combining Pd(OAc) 2 and iminophosphine ligands (P^N) are active catalysts in Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reactions under mild conditions. Aryl bromides and iodides, as well as benzyl chlorides give the corresponding coupled products in high yields at low temperatures (25–50 °C) using these catalysts. Iminophosphines containing the most sterically demanding groups attached to the N-imino moiety were the most effective ligands. New divalent Pd complexes of known ...

Abstract Addition of H2R2DTO (R = {S}-1-phenylethyl and DTO = dithiooxamide) to the bis(benzonitrile)palladium(II) chloride complex in chloroform afforded the mononuclear Pd(DTO)2·2HCl complex. The complex treated with NaHCO3 for removing of HCl and then reacted with [Pd(ƞ3-allyl)(µ-Cl)]2 for preparation of a new trimetallic organopalladium(II) complex. The molecular structure of the trimetallic complex was determined by X-ray diffraction indicating a planar geometry around each palladium center...

Phenylalanine ester-introduced palladium(II) and platinum(II) complexes were synthesized. Taking advantage of the formation of Schiff bases by amino acids as an intermediate, the pyridylimine moiety coordinated to a metal center. Single crystals of each complex were obtained successfully, and their molecular structures were clarified in detail. The Pd(II) complex showed remarkable cytotoxicity compared to the Pt(II) complex.
