Proteinase‐activated receptor (PAR) 1 and PAR 2 are abundantly expressed in the gastric mucosa and smooth muscle. PAR 2 modulates a variety of gastric functions, mediating secretion of mucus and pepsinogen, suppression of acid output, an increase in mucosal blood flow, and smooth muscle contraction/relaxation.
