Abstract
In Terceira Island (Azores, Portugal), 87% of the agricultural land is used for permanent pasture under periodical grazing. The edaphoclimatic conditions promote nitrate leaching into the groundwater and runoff, which carries sediments and fertilizers into the surface waters.
