Lower Paleozoic sediments of central, Cordilleran, and arctic Canada are dominated by two megafacies: supratidal to shallow subtidal carbonates and minor evaporites of the platformal (cratonic) areas, and deeper water dark shales and dark limestones of the slope and basinal areas.
