Abstract
The use of the sole Paralichthys sp. as a bioindicator species for mercury, cadmium and zinc pollution in the Bahía Blanca Estuary, Argentina, is investigated. Its distribution, life habits and predatory characteristics are considered. The highest total mercury concentrations were found in muscle, the levels being above internationally accepted standards for human consumption, followed by those in the liver and kidney.
