Abstract
Ureases are metalloenzymes involved in defense mechanisms in plants. The insecticidal activity of Canavalia ensiformis (jack bean) ureases relies partially on an internal 10 kDa peptide generated by enzymatic hydrolysis of the protein within susceptible insects.
