Pesquisa nacional de demografia e saúde da criança e da mulher - PNDS 2006: dimensões do processo reprodutivo e da saúde da criança

Abstract
Traca um perfil da populacao feminina em idade fertil e das criancas menores de cinco anos no Brasil. A maior parte dos dados foi coletada por meio de entrevistas domiciliares, realizadas com cerca de 15 mil mulheres entre 15 e 49 anos, que vivem em areas urbanas e rurais nas cinco regioes brasileiras. A metodologia incluiu ainda mensuracoes como as antropometricas, que medem altura e peso; analises laboratoriais de amostras de sangue, para dosagens de vitamina A e hemoglobina, e do teor de iodo disponivel no sal consumido pelas familias. Os dados coletados permitem analisar a fecundidade e intencoes reprodutivas; a atividade sexual e anticoncepcao; a assistencia a gestacao e ao parto; a morbidade feminina e o estado nutricional das criancas. Permitem ainda estudar tres novos temas introduzidos pela primeira vez na PNDS 2006: o acesso a medicamentos, os micronutrientes e a seguranca alimentar nos domicilios (acesso a alimentacao em quantidade suficiente e qualidade adequada).
