Hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor (pravastatin sodium) can selectively inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver and may lower serum cholesterol concentrations even where there are no particular dietary restrictions.
