Abstract
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in conjunction with a 4-DPSK modulation format has been proposed for the future digital audio broadcasting system (DAB), that should provide compact disk sound quality in portable, vehicular and fixed receivers. With properly chosen parameters, this system should be appropriate for both terrestrial and satellite transmission. In this paper the influence of the nonlinear distortions introduced by the high power amplifier (HPA) of the transmitter is examined. In particular, the degradation in power efficiency due to intermodulation effects and backoff operating, as well as spectral degradations are investigated. It is shown for three different kinds of limiting amplifier models, that even with an output backoff (OBO) in the region of 5-6 dB, the degradation of, e.g., a 512-carrier 4-DPSK/OFDM system relative to the linear case is below 1.7 dB, while the regenerated sidelobes of the transmitted spectrum are kept below -20 dB.

In this paper, we introduce a joint approach for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction and predistortion for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems subjected to strong memoryless nonlinearity. The proposed approach is new and promising concept that consists in a really synergistic combination of the two operations in order to improve power amplifier efficiency and linearity. Its key idea is to synthesize a correction signal in a Ping-Pong manner between PAPR reduction and pred...

Full-duplex transmission comprises the ability to transmit and receive at the same time on the same frequency band. It allows for more efficient utilization of spectral resources, but raises the challenge of strong self-interference (SI). Cancellation of SI is generally implemented as a multi-stage approach. This paper proposes a novel adaptive SI cancellation algorithm in the digital domain based on Kalman filter theory that creates the following advances: first, the number of unknowns of the n...

This paper studies the performance of enhanced multicarrier waveforms in the presence of a nonlinear memoryless high power amplifier (HPA). In particular, we focus on the in-band non-linear distortions (NLD) and their effects on symbol-error-rate. First, we introduce a theoretical characterization of NLD caused by HPAs. Two HPA models are considered in this paper: 1) a 4-GHz realistic HPA, modeled using a polynomial model, and this model exhibits both amplitude-to-amplitude (AM/AM) and amplitude...

Multi-carrier communication is a backbone of fourth-generation (4G) mobile communication due to high-data-rate capability. This multi-carrier communication is facilitated using orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM). But high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is a serious problem present in OFDM. High PAPR causes huge battery power consumption. To reduce PAPR, selected mapping (SLM) is one of the good technique from the set of scrambling methods. The performance of SLM technique for ...

High peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signal is a serious issue in multicarrier communication systems, such as second generation terrestrial digital video broadcasting (DVB-T2) systems. These large fluctuations prevent feeding the high power amplifier at an operating point near its non-linear saturation region thereby lowering its power efficiency. In recent years, tone reservation (TR) PAPR reduction techniques have been deeply studied and included in the DVB-T2 and the Ame...

5th generation upcoming applications require an alternative multicarrier modulation (MCM) scheme to support high data rate, high bandwidth efficiency, and low impulse noise. Filter Bank Multicarrier with Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (FBMC/OQAM) system is the most suitable scheme to meet this requirement for next wireless communication system. However, as an MCM, the high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is a significant problem from which the FBMC/OQAM suffers causing reduced power e...

Broadband wireless systems need to achieve high spectrum efficiency as well as high power efficiency of HPA (High Power Amplifier). When HPA is used with low output back-off (OBO), increased ACLP (Adjacent Channel Leakage Power) results in significant ACI (Adjacent Channel Interference) especially in TDD (Time Division Duplexing) wireless systems due to a near-far problem. In order to solve this ACLP problem of HPA at a mobile terminal, this paper proposes a novel HPA linearization system using ...

This paper presents a novel Tone Reservation (TR) Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) algorithm for the American digital video broadcasting (ATSC 3.0) standard. As any multicarrier communication systems, ATSC 3.0 transmitters suffer from high peaks of the transmitted signal. The high signal fluctuations constitute a major disadvantage of these systems. Indeed, they constraint the high power amplifiers to operate in their linear region which leads to poor spectral efficiency. To reduce the amplitu...

This paper analyzes the reason, why Peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is too high in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system and the impairment of PAPR to communication quality. Then, this paper proposes a new differential regression algorithm to reduce PAPR. By differentiating the frequency domain signal so that the average power of the regression signal equals the average power of the original signal, the variance of the instantaneous power becomes smaller. Use this method of...
