Abstract
Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a common disorder of the GE-junction that allows gastric acid to enter the esophagus. Surgery is indicated when the presence of the disease is objectively documented. The laparoscopic Toupet fundoplication is the preferred treatment of GERD.
