Background: Experimental evidence suggests de novo lipogenesis (DNL) affects insulin homeostasis via synthesis of saturated (SFA) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), and also through altered activity of the key regulatory enzyme, Stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 (SCD-1).
