Abstract Foliar epicuticular waxes of specimens of 13 Croton species native in Brazil were extracted. The fractions containing alkanes and primary alcohols were isolated by preparative thin layer chromatography. Derivatized n-primary alcohols were identified by gas chromatography (GC) coupled with mass spectrometry and n-alkanes by GC and comparison with known standards. Relative abundances were estimated by GC coupled with flame ionization detector. The distribution of constituents of both clas...

Abstract Phytochemical characterization of the whole plants of Erigeron breviscapus (Vant.) Hand.-Mazz. Led to the isolation of two indole derivatives (1–2), seven monoterpenoids (3–9), two sesquiterpenoids (10–11), and four pyrone derivatives (12–15). The structures of these compounds were examined with spectroscopic methods, and also by comparing with previously reported spectroscopic data. Among them, ten compounds (1–2, 6–11, 14–15) are reported from Erigeron breviscapus for the first time. ...

Abstract The essential oil of the fresh leaves of Platycladus orientalis (L.), grown in four different biogeographic zones of Jordan,- (the Mediterranean, Irano-Turanian, Saharo-Arabian, and Sudanian penetration) -, were obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass-spectrometry (GC/MS). The actual composition of the spontaneous emitted volatiles was obtained using the solid-phase-micro-extraction (SPME) method and investigated using the same c...

Abstract A rare anthocyanin, malvidin 3-O-rhamnoside, was isolated from the blue flowers of Parochetus communis Buch.-Ham. ex D. Don along with two known flavonols: kaempferol 3-O-(2-O-glucosyl-6-O-rhamnosyl)-glucoside and kaempferol 3-O-(2,6-di-O-rhamnosyl)-glucoside. These structures were identified using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Mass Spectrometry (MS).

Abstract Three perylenequinones, the methylated 12-epi-stemphytriol (1), dihydroalterperylenol (2), and alterperylenol (3), were isolated from cultures of Curvularia lunata (LBQM-04) on malt extract broth. All these compounds were obtained from this particular fungus for the first time. Structures of compounds were determined based on MS and NMR spectra, as well as by comparison with the literature reports. The isolation of these phytotoxic reduced perylenequinones from the Curvularia genus sugg...

Abstract Here, we isolated a new polyacetylene, (2Z,8E)-heptadecadiene-10-oxo-4,6-diyn-1-ol (1), an oxylipin (2), eight phenolic compounds (3–10), and 15 saponins (11–25) from the roots of Bupleurum chinense. We elucidated their structures by analysis of 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopic data and mass spectrometry, and by comparison with those of related metabolites. This is the first report of the presence of compounds 2 and 6 in the Bupleurum spp.. Chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds is d...

Abstract Phytochemical investigation on Glycyrrhiza echinata L. root resulted in the isolation of five highly polar oleanane glucuronopyranosides [yunganoside G1 (1), yunganoside G2 (2), yunganoside M (3), yunganoside E2 (4), and macedonoside C (5)]. The chemical structures of the isolates were elucidated by NMR and mass spectral data analysis as well as by comparing the relevant data with those of reported in literature. The chemotaxonomic significance of macedonoside C and other saponins in Gl...

Abstract Sixteen compounds, including one polyacetylene (1), twelve coumarins (2–7, 9–14), one sterol (8), as well as two sugar derivatives (15, 16), were obtained from Libanotis laoshanensis by modern phytochemical isolation methods such as column chromatography and preparative TLC. Their structures were identified by spectroscopic methods and in comparison with the published data in the references. All the compounds were reported from L.laoshanensis for the first time. The chemotaxonomic signi...

Abstract A new yellow carotenoid, named 5,6-dihydrocrustaxanthin (6), was isolated together with five yellow xanthophylls: isoastaxanthin (1), 5,6-dihydropenaeusxanthin (2), penaeusxanthin (3), tetrahydroxypirardixanthin (4), and crustaxanthin (5) from three species of prawns: Marsupenaeus japonicus, Litopenaeus vannamei, and Metapenaeus joyneri, belonging to Penaeidae. The structure of (6) was determined to be (3R,4S,5R,6R,3′R,4′S)-5,6-dihydro-β,β-carotene-3,4,3′,4′-tetrol by UV-VIS, MS, 1H NMR...
