Abstract In this study, we improve the thermal stability of PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 thin film by Dy doping (Dy = 0–4 at.%). The PZT solution is prepared from lead acetate trihydrate, zirconium n-propoxide, and titanium (IV) isopropoxide to have the composition in the morphotropic phase boundary of PbZr(1-x)TixO3 (x = 0.48 at.%); using a spin coater, the solution is then deposited onto a Pt coated Si substrate. The polarization-electric field hysteresis loop shows that the polarization density (μC/cm2) ...

Abstract Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were prepared via reactive high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) using a mixture of argon and a small amount of C2H4 or CH4 gas. Synthesis of the DLC films was based on both plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition and physical vapor deposition. At a peak target current of 30 A corresponding to 1.1 A/cm2, the hardness of films prepared with hydrocarbon gas fractions of less than 5% was somewhat higher than the hardness of films prepared via no...

Abstract The acetone level in diabetic patients is double that in healthy people, and is important not only for biosensors but also for gas sensors. In this study, carbon nanowall (CNW) was grown on a substrate using a microwave-plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition system with a mixture of methane (CH4) and hydrogen (H2) gases for acetone sensing. Zinc oxide (ZnO) and aluminum-doped ZnO (AZO) were deposited on the CNW using a radio frequency magnetron sputtering system with 4-inch AZO and Z...

Abstract The demand for low dimensional, micro powered and wireless indoor electronic devices has been increasing. To power-up those devices, organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells are being employed. The OPV cells exhibit good spectral matching and mechanical flexibility, and can harvest artificial indoor light energy efficiently. Hole transport layer (HTL) is an important component of an OPV cell. Water stable, low temperature processable poly (3, 4-ethylene dioxythiophene): poly (4-styrenesulfonic ...

Abstract In the present study, a simple sol-gel method was applied using different precursors to comparatively investigate thermal, structural and optical properties of W and Nb-doped VO2-based thin films using differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy and temperature-controlled ultraviolet–visible–near infrared spectroscopy techniques. For this purpose, vanadium precursors with different valence states were selected as starting materials and WCl6 a...

Abstract Comprehensive understandings for the resistivity−temperature behavior of high-entropy alloy (HEA) films is crucial for assessing their potential as thin-film resistive materials. But due to the great difference between the structure of bulk and film materials, the resistivity−temperature behavior of the bulk HEAs cannot be directly introduced to understand the evolution law of the resistivity of HEA films with temperature. The present work investigated the resistivity change with temper...

Abstract Bifunctional hybrid silica sol-gel coatings were synthesized, which showed both increased light transmittance and water-repellence. The as-prepared coatings of variable thickness (100 – 175 nm) were found to have low refractive index (1.250 – 1.275), high porosity (36% – 42%), and maximum light transmittance up to 99.8%. Water-repellence of the surface was due to high water contact angle (90°) and low contact angle hysteresis (1-2°). Ellipsometric porosimetry and transmission electron m...

Abstract Although it is evident that the formation of multiple through-thickness cracks in polymer-supported thin films leads to an increase of the electrical resistance, the attempts to quantify the dependence of resistance growth only based on the induced crack density have not yet been successful. In this paper a recently developed relationship, representing the resistance growth as a two-variable polynomial function of crack density and crack length, is utilized to analyze the crack patterns...
Abstract Two different designs of top-emitting green OLEDs (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes) have been studied. The first one presents a planar OLED architecture. The second one presents an OLED having a topographic surface, so as to simulate a pixel partitioning of a display using an electrically insulating, 200 nm-thick, resist. It has been observed that the topography has a large impact on OLED performances. Studying devices using an ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) -deposited Al2O3 barrier film s...
Abstract In this study, functional element coatings on Ti-alloys for biomaterials by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) were studied using different experimental techniques. Si- and Mg-doped hydroxyapatite films were formed on the Ti–6Al–4V alloy via anodization at an applied DC voltage of 280 V for 3 min. The chemical composition of the surface layers was examined using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy mapping and line-profile analysis. The morphology of the surface was observed using fiel...
