Abstract Three newly isolated ergosterols, psathergosterols A–C (1–3), together with two known ones (4 and 5), have been isolated from cultures of the basdiomycete Psathyrella candolleana. Their structures with the absolute configuration were elucidated by means of spectroscopic methods and the single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 2–4 exhibited certain cytotoxicities to five human cancer cell lines (HL-60, SMMC-7721, A-549, MCF-7, SW480).
